TRAIL RIDES AND INFORMATION

The 2010 Trail Ride schedule is on the web site under 'Trail Rides'.  We hope to have many of you join us this year.  It’s a wonderful time with each other and our horses.  Let us know if you need a ride and we’ll see if anyone has room.  Most of our rides are very suitable for your children.  Consider bringing them along and don’t forget their helmets.   Enjoy the trails you ride and be safe.  Enjoy these wonderful animals; horse, mules and donkeys, that God has given us.

Our next Trail Ride will be held Sept. 11th at Uwharrie River Trail.  Be ready to ride at 10:00 am.

Directions from Lexington:

New Hwy 64 East to Hwy 109 S.
Go approx. 22 miles through the town of Eldorado.
Go another 1.5 miles past Eldorado and turn right on Mullinix Rd, just after the yellow Horse Crossing sign on the right. (There is also a sign on the left that says 4B Farms.)
Go down Mullinix Rd. about 1 mile, then turn right to go to the barn.

As always, don’t forget your coggins.  Also, pack a lunch or snacks for the trail.  Please come be a part of this fun adventure called trail riding.  We have a lot of fun and fellowship on these rides and would love to see new faces and horses.

You can call Scott or me at 236-0155 and leave a message or you can email me at shelley71253@yahoo.com.  We will also let you know if there are any changes.  If a ride is cancelled due to weather, a message will be put on the DCHA website.

NEWS FROM OUR CLUB MEMBERS

Newsletter Chairperson position open as of next January

I have been the Membership and Newsletter Chairperson for over 10 yrs and it’s time for me to let someone take it over.  It’s been fun doing this and it’s really not too hard if you have some Word document expertise.  I would love to have the person who would take over let me know before the end of the year so I could help them transition into the Chairperson position.  I would have liked to have others on the committee to share this with me but it seemed easier to do it myself.  I will step down after the December newsletter has been completed so please consider taking up this committee position.  Contact me if you have any questions or would like to consider taking over.  You can find my contact information on the first page of the paper newsletter and the Contact page on the website.

Rocky Rutherford, Cowboy Poet and Poet Lariat of Silver Valley, NC

In his poetry and stories, Rocky shows great respect for the American Cowboy, especially the Carolina Cowboy.  He has recited all over our State, at rodeos and cowboy gatherings.  He does it for the fun of it and the joy of celebrating the cowboy and girl.  His last performance was on The National Day of the American Cowboy at the Johnson Ranch near Denton.  Folks just naturally take to his warm and down home type of humor and poetry.  All his “stuff” is from the boots of the cowboy as he wades into his own poetry, some memorized, some read, some made up on the spot.  He also does “fancy” stuff like Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe and some other poets.

Here are a few:

“The Blue Bell Wrangler Cowboy”, “How do I love Thee”, “Fig Bars, Coffee and Beans”, “El Dorado”, “God Must Be a Cowboy at Heart”, “Rodeo Man”, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and tomorrow…”, “Invictus”, “A Boy Named Sue”, and a whole bunch more!  Rocky is proud to be an American who loves the “country life” he enjoys with his wife, Patsy, on their mini farm in Silver Valley.  Bud Eanes invited us to UNION GROVE MILLING Co. 75th Anniversary celebration on Sat. Sept. 25th  where Rocky will be appearing. Union Grove Milling's address is: 1868 W. Memorial Hwy - Union Grove, NC 28689 - Toll Free 1-800-289-2051.   Or check their website for more info. DCHA will be having our 2nd Annual Tack Swap on Nov. 13th 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
We hope we have a great turn out like last year but much warmer temps.  For details see Tack Flyer.

Please send me information to include in the newsletter.  I’m sure other DCHA members would love to hear about your riding, your suggestions, yourself even.  This is your page and I need your help. - Susan Hilton
