TRAIL RIDES AND INFORMATION

The 2010 Trail Ride schedule is on the web site under 'Trail Rides'.  We hope to have many of you join us this year.  It’s a wonderful time with each other and our horses.  Let us know if you need a ride and we’ll see if anyone has room.  Most of our rides are very suitable for your children.  Consider bringing them along and don’t forget their helmets.   Enjoy the trails you ride and be safe.  Enjoy these wonderful animals; horse, mules and donkeys, that God has given us.

The location of the November trail ride has changed.  We rode at Hanging Rock this past weekend and the colors were only half bright.  In two weeks the colors should be at their peak; even the weatherman said Pilot Mtn and Hanging Rock would peak the first week in November.  So we are changing the ride to Nov 6th at Tory's Den parking lot and riding to Rock House Rd parking lot. - gff - 10/25/10. This is approximately a 4 hour ride.

Below are the directions:

Take 52-N through Winston Salem.
Take Exit 122 at RJR/Moore Rds.
Turn left off exit and go 4.5 miles to Route 66 (through 3 intersections).
Turn left on to Route 66.
Go 5-6 miles to Moore's Spring Rd and turn right.
Go short distance, turn right onto Mickey Rd.
Go short distance, turn right onto Charley Young Rd.  This is a dead end road.
Go short distance and parking lot is on left.  If parking lot if full, you can park along the road.  Dead end road and very little traffic.

As always, don’t forget your coggins.  Also, pack a lunch or snacks for the trail.  Please come be a part of this fun adventure called trail riding.  We have a lot of fun and fellowship on these rides and would love to see new faces and horses.

If a ride is cancelled due to weather, a message will be put on the DCHA website.

From Brock Griffith Horsemanship:

Hello again, its time for our monthly Newsletter & Updates

First of all, Our Open House and Horse Expo was a great success! We had almost 400 people come out throughout the day, and we want to thank everyone who attended. We also want to thank all of our vendors for helping us in making this a great experience as well as all of our volunteers! We are looking at hosting another Expo in April, 2011 here at the Double G Ranch. We would like your input on the idea, and any suggestions to make it bigger & better are greatly appreciated. We want to know what our clients and the public are looking for when they attend Expos.

Second, I would also like some input on late Fall and winter Clinic Topics, and what you all would like to see for those. We have hosted a groundwork for respect, and a Beginner Barrels & Poles clinic since we have been open for business here at our new farm. They were both filled and enjoyed by all. If you have a suggestion or topic you would like help with, please let us know as we are planning our winter and spring calender now.

We are helping to co-host a benefit Barrel & Poles show this Sunday, October 17th for our beloved Rodeo Friends, Tim & Woody Brown. About 2 weeks ago, there barn and all of their horses burnt to the ground, they lost everything. This also included there children s horses. We are asking everyone to help out just a little, even if you can only donate time or even $1, if everyone contributes, it will make a big difference  in the life of this awesome family. We are hoping to raise enough to get them started building a new barn, and maybe a horse or two! The event will be IBRA sanctioned, and we will also be having a silent auction. If you are interested in making a monetary donation, please click on the Donate button from the home page of our website. Every penny will go directly to the brown family. If you have a donation for the silent auction, you can bring them to the show, or mail or make arrangements to get the items to me. We are also looking for people to donate time to help at the show, setting barrels, cooking & selling food and just helping out where need be. The show will be this Sunday at Triple H Arena in Winston Salem, NC. Exhibitions will start at 11 with the show to follow at 2 pm. For more info please contact me.

We are also ready to take on a few board horses here the Double G. We are taking a very limited number of Full board horses. They will have a dedicated stall, turnout when you prefer, pastures with groups no larger than 4, Premium Feeds by Purina, quality hay and pasture. We also offer a light/fan in every stall, lighted roundpen and arena, nice relaxing trails, and the convenience of on site trainers and clinics. All boarders receive a discount on lessons and or clinics. Private, peaceful setting where you can just relax, and enjoy your horse and good fellowship. Our Bathroom includes lockers & a shower. For more information on boarding with us, please contact me via phone or email.

Last, I want to let everyone know that I have been selected to participate in the 1st ever Women's trainer challenge. This is the same competition that Brock won in 2008 and the Equine Extravaganza. This year, they have turned it over to the Women trainers of our industry to show their skills! For those who are not familiar with this event, it is the Largest Equine event on the East coast, and is hosted Halloween Weekend in Dozwell, Va. The competition is simple, 3 trainers, 3 unstarted horses, 1 hr a day for 3 days, then a finials course on Sunday to show your horse. The winner is then announced after the finials. The competition is judged by 4 horse professional, as well as votes by the audience, via text message. Brock and myself will also be doing clinics all weekend at the event. If you love horses of any kind, this is a weekend worth taking off and heading up for the trip. I would love to  have some of our clients and friends there for support! There are 100's of training demos and clinics, along with some of the best vendors in the equine industry. You can check out the event @ www.Equineextravaganza.com

We hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful fall weather, and most of all, spending  some quality time in the saddle. If you are interested in training, private lessons or a clinic, please feel free to email us. We will catch up again next month!

Sincerely,

Leisha Griffith
